Oops we did it again....
Yeah that's a Britney Spears reference to start this one off. You know what? I don't care. Why? Because we just won back to back cups again. 12 Cups have now been raised in total. Thrice we've won the double. We own this cup so much the FA finally decided to slap our sponsors name on it. It's about time they get something right eh?
What a final! What a performance! I was confident going in. At least as confident as a Gooner can be. Which really shakes out to not a lot. No team torments their fan base like the Arsenal. Not Saturday. Not this time. This was different. This was sheer domination.
I thought Giroud would start. I thought Ospina would be between the sticks. That just goes to show you that I'm not Arsene Wenger. Not to say Giroud/Ospina wouldn't have worked. Props to Le Boss on this one because he absolutely got it right. We were on the front foot all match long. The proverbial hand brake had gone missing. This was the swashbuckling Arsenal we've come to know and love.
Villa was overrun from the start. We should have been at least two goals up before Theo's opener. What a well taken goal! I've been as vocal a critic of his you'll find but on this day he put in a shift. Great match for Theo. You could just see when that one went in, the Villa fight went out. Lucky to be only down by one at the break, you'd think Villa would come out with a bit more verve to start the second. I was wrong.
It all went south for them. Everything went right for us. I've run out of ways to describe Alexis's screamer. All I can say is that it's the best FA Cup goal I've ever seen. Thirty yards out and 70 miles an hour. Off the underside of the bar. You could have parked Christ the Redeemer in front of the goal like a Chav people mover and that ball is still going in. An absolute master class in technique from our POTY!
Always good to see our captain get on the scoresheet. Mertesacker's celebration....yeah I felt like that too. Love that guy.
Just to add a bit more sweetness to the afternoon, that Handsome French Bloke makes a cheeky run and gets on the score sheet. His touch was sublime and a goal for him was deserved. His goal was so good my wife got a little short of breath and blushed. Giroud gets a lot of stick which to me is undeserved. To me he is our most underappreciated player.
All the way around a great day. A great win. The best part to me was the amazing turnout that we had a both pubs. Probably around 200 Sooner Gooners turned up to watch us make history. Slim's and George's were absolutely packed. Thank you guys for coming out! There's no Sooner Gooners without you. If it wasn't for you guys, Scott and I might very well still be watching this in my living room.
Cheers you Sooner Gooners! 4-Nil to the Arsenal!!!!
