Hey! We CAN score!!! I know after the last few results we'd all began to wonder if the back of the onion sack would ever ripple again. Three points picked up on the south coast is what we needed to hopefully jumpstart our title challenge. A much needed goal from the Ox and another magnificent performance from Ozil saw us comfortably take all three points. Petr Cech added to his league leading clean sheet total as well in what turned out to be a pretty routine affair. Any weekend we take all the points and not send anyone to the trainer's table is a win for us all the way around.
Which brings us to this next run of games. I'm amazed at how many people are sounding like a Dennis Green clip (American football coach) and are so quick to crown Leicester. I'm interested to see how they do now that the pressure is squarely on them. For the first time this season I think all eyes are on them. Of course if they go onto win it'll be a great story. I just don't buy it. This weekend will tell us a lot about both teams. If we can take them down I think you may see them fold heading down the stretch. Truly though the same could be said of us.
I think our advantage is that we are getting everyone back and will be finding that rhythm again. You can't lose as many as we've lost over the last two to three months and not applaud the way we've come through it. We are still in the best position we've been in at this point in the league in what feels like forever. A win this weekend and we sit only two points off the leaders having beaten them twice on the season. City is a wreck and we all know what happens to our North London neighbors every March (I'm still minding that gap). It's still in our hands and I think we have just as good of a shot at lifting the cup as anyone else.
Of course we're entering another tricky part of the season. The tie against Barcelona will fire up soon. Another round in the Champions League that frankly I just can't get excited about. Sure it'll be fun to line up against the best team in the world at the moment. Matches against the Catalonian giants are always fun. But let's be honest, we're still a ways away when it comes to really making a push in Europe.
Our immediate goal is domestic. We have a really chance at winning the league and possibly doing the FA Cup treble. Ending the season with that would make a great one. If that means we let Europe pass us by then so be it. We are getting healthy at the right time and have some good depth coming back. We're setting up for another good run to end out the campaign.
I'm clinging to optimism at this point. Doom and gloom just doesn't look good on me.
